Corrosion Control Tank Coatings

Quality Tank Coating Applications

Universal Corrosion Specialists, Inc. (U.C.S.) has developed a procedure using three Cortec products to treat the inside of oil storage tanks.

  • VpCI - CorrVerter (primer)
  • VpCI - 395 (topcoat)
  • VpCI - 2026 (high-impact area topcoat)

TTank Corrosion Controlhese procedures and products significantly reduce the cost as compared to the spray-in liner or Kol-Tar often used and offers as good, or better, protection. When using our products there is no need to sandblast before the application. The Cortec chemists have engineered their CorrVerter application process to modify the surface (flash) rust into a bonded layer with the metal. The three part procedure is done with the typical paint roller/brush and spraying.

The VpCI - CorrVerter, VpCI - 395 and VpCI - 2026 form a very hard, but flexible, coating that will not crack or peel. The patented VpCI (Vapor Phase Inhibitor) in our products provides continuous protection against corrosion that may occur under typical coatings and liners. We can provide fact sheets and MSDS sheets along with the results of testing in immersion situations, gaseous environments with C02, S02, and H2S for each product. All of our products are manufactured by Cortec Corporation – a well-respected company that is both IS09001 and IS014001 certified.

Quality Tank Coatings vs. Traditional Tank Coatings

U.C.S./Cortec Tank Coatings

  • Environmentally Friendly – No emission issues with Federal or State Environmental Quality Departments
  • Easy to apply
  • No need to sandblast with VpCI-CorrVerter
  • Protection with minimal DFT (dry film thickness) – less than 10 mils
  • Low VOCs (volatile organic compounds)

Traditional Tank Coatings

  • Application requires expensive high-pressure spray machines
  • Tanks require sandblasting prior to the coating process
  • Multiple coating layers require a DFT of up to 30+mils
  • High VOCs and numerous emission issues with Fed and State
